Be Brave And Overcome Depression

Depression can happen to anyone. In this fast paced world, we normally feel stress and anxiety many times due to various reasons. We fail to realize that we are in depression until it’s become unbearable. Many can’t handle depression and go into drugs and worse kill themselves. A few days ago, a young Government official committed suicide due to depression. He was an IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer, a highly reputed post in India.

He was only 29 years old.

He left a suicide note stating that he was depressed from his life because of the regular tussle between his wife and his family. He also made a video before committing suicide. It’s proven umpteenth time that depression can get you regardless of your social status. I have myself suffered from a period of depression. It lasted for around three months.

My period of depression started in May this year. After doing freelancing for few months, I decided to search for full-time writing jobs. A long list of interviews happened without any result. I felt a lot of stress during that time thinking about my future. My self-confidence dipped with every rejection. Plenty of things went through my mind at that time. I even thought about changing the city. My fiancee, a hardcore religious person, suggested me to wear some religious thread. As we say in our Hindu religion, these threads can bring good luck.

She was the only thing that kept me going through that bad phase. Yes, I was depressed because of unemployment but I kept trying. After trying for almost three months, I finally got a job in July. One thing that I have learned from my personal experience is that you can overcome depression.

If I can do it why can’t you?

Are you depressed by some people? Get rid of them. Are you depressed by your job? Change it. Are you depressed by your current location? Relocate to another place. Are you depressed by unemployment? Learn and master your skills. Are you depressed by your past? Remember, life is lived by constantly looking forward. Read inspirational books, do meditation and if everything fails, consult a doctor.

Your life is precious. Just give yourself a chance to survive from your bad phase. I know it’s easier said than done but let me tell you, many wonderful things can happen if you can just try. No matter how hard the situation can be, try and be positive.

Make up your mind that no matter what comes your way, no matter how difficult, no matter how unfair, you will do more than simply survive. You will thrive in spite of it.— Joel Osteen
