About Me: Who is Evan Morgan, Anyway?
I’ll give you a hint — Evan Morgan isn’t even my real name.
I’ve seen a lot of Medium writers pen and share their “About Me” articles. So, in essence, this is my entry into the fold— introducing myself formally to anyone who has already read my work, and to those who have yet to discover and read my musings.
I suppose I should start at the very beginning: Who is Evan Morgan, and why does he think he knows so much about writing, anyway?
Let me get this out of the way right from the get-go. Evan Morgan is a lie. My real name is Evan Jodloman (pronounced Hud-Low-Man). My father claims it’s Filipino in origin, but, I’ve always had my doubts — especially because the J is pronounced like an H.
And, if growing up and finding your own identity were not hard enough, growing up in a biracial household makes the concept of identity even trickier to navigate — with each foot in a different culture, and yet, fully at home in neither.
I can tell you that since I was young I’ve always hated my given name. It has been butchered, mispronounced, misspelled, and otherwise maimed my entire life.
