International Paper Co. on September 23, 1918 started up a new hydroelectric plant at the company’s South Glens Falls, N.Y. paper mill.

“The big water wheel and generator worked to perfection,” The Post-Star reported the next morning.

The power plant, operating at partial capacity, powered some of the machines in the heater room and cutting room.

“Something less than 300 horse power was being used yesterday but the wheel has capacity for much more,” The Post-Star reported.

In other 1918 news:

The Post-Star on Sept. 19 reported that Standard Wall Paper Co. was installing new machinery at its Hudson Falls plant to handle a contract to supply the federal government with an unspecified product for the war effort.

The Post-Star reported on Sept. 21 that Miss Maude Bissell, a music student of Elmer Tidmarsh, left Glens Falls to study piano and music education at New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.
