Glens Falls in 1918 — Strike up the band at quitting time
Union Bag and Paper Corp. is establishing an employee band, The Post-Star of Glens Falls, N.Y. reported on Sept. 30, 1918.
“The object of the organization is to promote good fellowship and cooperation among employees. … A competent instructor is to be engaged, and it is predicted that in the near future the band will be one of the foremost of its kind in this section.”
The following band officers were elected at an organizational meeting:
Manager — George S. Witham
Secretary — J.H. Vart
Treasurer — John Yarter
Librarian — Edwin Norman
Property Man — George Durant
In other Sept. 30, 1918 news, The Post-Star reported:
“Loren Barber (of Fort Edward) has to his credit the first fox of the season, which he shot near North Greenwich early Saturday morning.”
