Do you know the muffin man, the muffin man,
the muffin man?
Do you know the muffin man
who lives on Drury Lane?

The Legend:

Most of us know The Muffin Man as a cute poem for children or perhaps as a character from the Shrek movie franchise. In urban legend lore, the Muffin Man is a serial killer.

This sinister story comes from London and is quite the tale.

Frederic Thomas Lynwood was born in 1563. As an adult, he lived on Drury Lane. Between 1589 and 1598, he was London’s first documented serial killer. He gained names like Drury Lane Dicer and The Muffin Man.

It’s believed he killed as many as 15 children and 7 rivalry pastry chefs. He would lure his victims down dark alleys with tempting baked goods. Then, he’d complete his murderous task.

If you take this tale for truth, The Muffin Man poem is more of a warning to children to stay clear of Drury Lane.

Author’s Notes:

Please bear in mind that this is only an urban legend, which means it may or may not be true. Or maybe it’s partially true. It’s hard to find any evidence that proves the theory is factual.
