Excellent post. You bring up some very important questions about the violence in our society today. And it is true that America has more people incarcerated than any other country. There are more prisons built in this country than there are educational institutions. That says a lot about the society we live in.

I’m not sure regulation would do any good either. And I’m not sure it’s even really a mental health issue. I say this because these things have always existed. Availability to guns, mental health issues, and guys being rejected by girls that is. Yet, we didn’t have violence at the level that we have today. There was always violence, but just not at the level we are experiencing it today. We should not be teaching Kindergarten students how to protect themselves in case of a mass shooting. And teachers should not have to carry weapons. These things should not even be thought about when you’re learning your ABC’s.

There is something very wrong with our society today. I think it’s a social issue. I’m not sure what the solution is. But I think it is partly that the family unit has fallen apart over the years. Family is the core of everything. And it seems that many families are not in tact today. There is no one to be home for the kids after school anymore. Because most people have to work just to get by. There doesn’t seem to be any discipline or direction today.

Well anyway, I’m sure this is just scratching the surface. I’m sure this issue goes a lot deeper. Again, thank you for writing such a thoughtful piece.
