PS Now Needs A Change
PS now could be an amazing service. Some argue that it is great service already. However, objectively, it’s one of the worst services Sony has. The lack of PS2 games, the lack of being able to download PS3 games, and the idea that you need a really good internet connection holds this service back so much.
Let’s start with the PS2 games situation. As we all know, the PS2 has an amazing lineup of games with a plethora of classics that make you want to play them simply by hearing their name. Classics that everybody remember like Tony Hawk, GTA, Def Jam, the list goes on. Even games that aren’t talked about as much like the wild west video game GUN and Goosebumps Horror-land and even Scarface: The World Is Yours. All of these games are well forgotten by many and are considered classics, yet, Sony has done no justice to these games at all. Of course, the PS4 has a PS2 on PS4 type of emulation but they haven’t updated that list of games since 2018, nearly 2 years ago! And the list of games on there is only about 53 games. Comparing that to the entire library of PS2 games, they have barely put anything on there. It’s a shame. Yes, you can at least download them via PS Now, however, the fact that there is a lack of PS2 games is very concerning and disappointing as gamers deserve to be able to play their classic games whenever they want on their newest system. Especially considering how Sony market PS2 games on the PS Now game log. Overall, the lack of PS2 games and the disrespect towards the PS2 library truly is a bummer and we only hope that soon, Sony will do something to bring these classics back. Whether that’s full Backwards Compatibility or adding more PS2 games to PS Now as time goes on.
Now let’s talk about an even bigger problem, the PS3 games. These games that came out last generation, these games that are also considered classics. Games like Condemned, Fear, Dead Space, Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3, GTA 4, all of these games are only available through PS Now and some of them aren’t even on there! So even if you wanted to go back and play these games, you need to go buy a PS3 and buy that game and that’s how you can play them or buy them on steam. If you really wanted to go play older games though, you’re better off buying an Xbox as they have full backwards Compatibility and you can play them with no stutters or lag or FPS drops unlike PS Now. I’ve only personally tested PS Now with a WiFi connection, however, I never lag in any game no matter what game it is, unless my internet is having a bad day and doesn’t work as that happens for everybody. However, the moment I played PS Now and started playing Red Dead Redemption, I could barely control my character, the quality was stuck at 240P and it was one of the worst gaming experiences I’ve ever had. The fact that you can’t even download PS3 games is shocking and one of the reasons why I don’t personally recommend PS Now because you buy it for PS3 games essentially and with the lack of classics on there and having to stream them with a internet connection that’s absolutely top tier is dreadful and not worth your money, time, nor patience.
PS Now can be a great service. But right now with the lack of PS2 support, not being able to download PS3 games, and having to have near perfect internet to even play it, it’s not worth your time yet. Hopefully, Sony realizes soon how important classics and previous games on previous generations are as well as the exclusives that release today. PS Now is a step in the right direction and they’re making it better with pricing it at $60 instead of $100. However, if they were to make a bundle with PS Now and PS Plus and price it at $80 or $90, add more PS2 support, let you be able to download PS3 games, and upgrade the servers and make it an overall better experience, then I would recommend it absolutely. But as of right now, PS Now is just an okay experience and not worth your time.
