Email is the biggest time waster in the history of business from the simple fact that email encourages worthless messages and task “hot potato” in addition to the sheer volume of junk masquerading as important reading. Tyranny of the email inbox began with desktop computers but has spread into almost universal business mind control through handheld devices taken everywhere, every day. I’ve tried different email client apps from Outlook to the recently defunct Mailbox of “zeroinbox” fame, and now consider Spark a reasonable email repository for its ability to deliver mail from separate addresses into a “Smart Inbox” replete with features to help the user blast through the message chaff to get to the priority wheat. A new method I’m implementing includes use of Trello as a way to feed emails into task and project “cards” where they can be dealt with based on project goals and deadlines. Jury is out still on the effectiveness of this method, but it is showing promise. Email will keep its place as time tyrant of the business world for the time being, but I have hope due to the ingenuity and creativity of app developers who see this problem and are working to provide solutions to fix it.
