After perusing Buffer’s article on Social Media Trends 2019, it’s clear that now is the best time to be a writer, but only if you know what’s coming.
Here’s what’s happening according to Buffer. Their #1 Social Media Trend indicates that content produced in the moment, ephemeral content, is on the rise. Think Snap-chat, Instagram, and Facebook Stories.
Highly produced content is going to take a backseat to content produced in the moment, by you guessed it, regular people. According to Buffer’s research, the primary way of sharing content on social media will soon be stories. In fact, Buffer predicts, these stories will supplant the “news feed” method of content sharing. So, for those that are paying attention, now is the time to hone your story telling skills so you’ll be on the cutting edge of this critical transformation.
Short attention spans, nurtured by increasing mobile usage will fuel demand. Millennial and Gen Z’ers flourish on authentic and meaningful brand relationships. This means brands will need to become more personal, more authentic, and focused on the now. Planned, pre-packed content will fall by the wayside.
What Does it All Mean for Writers?
There will be an increased focus on the people behind a brand
Content such as video, images, and STORIES will need to link the less-polished human side of business to the audience.
Overall, it will become more critical for businesses to be able to tell their story in a way that resonates with their audience. Keyword stuffing, generic ads, and pre-packaged content won’t be effective anymore.
Good writers will once again be in demand. Great storytellers, the ones who can weave statistics and evidence into the STORY of the business, will be able to write their own ticket.
So get ready.
Hone your storytelling skills.
Practice telling a story about a product or a business that will resonate with potential customers. You know what I’m talking about.
If you can write, ads, emails, blog post content, website copy, whatever, that hits potential customers in the feels, you’ll be positioned to take advantage of this new media shift.
Can you think of businesses who are already making this shift? Which ads or copy have you seen that hit you in the feels? Those are the businesses who know what’s coming. As a writer, you can be ready too, now that you are in the know.
