#365DaysOfWriting – Day 103
Every gold has a silver lining
By now, I’m sure you’ve heard the heart-breaking news: PV Sindhu won a silver after giving one heck of a fight for gold. The great thing though is she’s just 21 – there are many more medals and trophies for her. I see a really bright future.
One moment though from the match stood out for me.
Carolina Marin may have screamed her way to a gold. And Sindhu may have lost the game, but she was gracious enough to dust that off, walk up to her opponent and congratulate her with a hug. Marin returned the generous hug graciously. Imagine the amount that final would’ve drained both athletes, physically and emotionally. But that’s the thing about sport – even after such a pulsating, high-quality game, there was time for a beautiful moment like this, to neatly tie the whole package. Almost like a satin ribbon on a beautiful gift.
Anyway, congratulations to both players. This was a match worthy of a final. And Sindhu, your time will come.
From badminton, to music.
I’ve been listening to the songs from Aandhi on loop. Namely तेरे बिना ज़िन्दगी से कोई, इस मोड़ से जाते हैं and तुम आ गए हो (Tere bina zindagi se koi, iss mod se jaate hain and tum aa gaye ho). It was Gulzar’s birthday yesterday, and in all the hoopla surrounding Sindhu, I couldn’t do justice to his birthday. But his songs and films and shayaris are always there to remind me of his genius. Belated happy birthday, Gulzarsaab. Thanks for showing us that there is magic in wordplay. No one plucks the heart strings quite like you do.
