#365DaysOfWriting — Day 127
The Curious Case of Mocambo
I had a discussion with a friend over the Mocambo restaurant fiasco, and that person was of the opinion that most of the guys ranting about it are hypocritical, that they wouldn’t really take their driver/maid to a place like Mocambo to dine with them.
Maybe. Fair point. But to rant is not wrong. Especially when the treatment meted out to the said party was inhumane. And I come from a family where we treat our maid and drivers like family.
Another friend of mine ranted about the whole incident. You can read it here.
His point is — not ranting and staying quiet about it doesn’t help either. It’s the sad truth, but restaurants can learn to be a little humane rather than treating customers like shit because ‘it’s bad for business’. If Massimo Bottura can make five-star food out of leftovers for homeless people, I’m sure a decently-dressed driver can have a meal in Mocambo without people staring at him.
