Boy with wealthy, influential parents enters a dark alley.
Parents are shot down by a common thug.
Boy vows vengeance, is brought up by butler, and becomes superhero.
You’ve heard this spiel over and over again, haven’t you?
You would have to be living under a rock if you didn’t — this is the story of Bruce Wayne, who goes on to become Batman.
He is my favourite DC superhero.
Yes, because I have a Marvel favourite too – Spider-Man. Batman, though… there was something magnetic about his personality, which got to me even at the age of 8.
However, I feel DC have dropped the ball on him as a character.
There are just a couple of things I feel they could’ve done differently with him:
- Retire Bruce Wayne: Yes, he’s the guy who started it all, but superheroes get old. Especially those like Batman, who is a human being at the end of the day. They could’ve retired him, and passed the mantle to Richard Grayson. In my opinion, Richard’s been the better Batman off late.
- Don’t make him a God: But DC have gone ahead and done just that, by putting him on the Möbius Chair. That was followed by making Gordon Batman. Just, don’t.
Anyway, I don’t want to rant about him. Here are a couple of pictures of my Batman collection.
