Today I was listening to an old favourite – Gori by A Band of Boys

By the way 199 is Mohd. Azharuddin’s highest test score. Sorry I had to put it out there – an irresistible stat!

Back to Gori.

During the 90s and for much of the early 2000s, India had a glorious pop music scene. Euphoria, Aryans, Indian Ocean, even Shaan and Asha Bhonsle, to name a few. We even had the Pakistanis wooing us with their beautiful music – Fuzon, Jal, Strings, Junoon and the like.

A Band of Boys was part of that scene.

They rocked the scene with मेरी नींद उड़ गयी हैं (Meri neend udd gayi hai) and even had the super hit नैन कटारी (Nain Katari) to their credit, but my favourite of theirs will always be गोरी (Gori). It was very reminiscent of the romantic numbers Backstreet Boys came up with during their heydays, yet it had a distinct Indian touch to it. This song always evokes happy memories… my only disappointment is that the song isn’t available on iTunes (if it is, can someone please guide me to a link?!) so I have to resort to watching a downloaded YouTube music video. The music video is a bit surreal, but not too bad at all.

Let’s see what the big day has in store tomorrow, then. Good night y’all!
