The calm before the storm…

You know that point in your life, where you’ve had a reasonably calm day, but fear that it’s only setting you up for something big? Today felt like that day.

Something similar is happening with Manchester United. Jose Mourinho’s been appointed, Giggsy’s left quietly (sadly) and we’ve signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

And oh, one more thing.

Before the club could announce the signing of this particular player, he announced it himself. Scorer of outrageous goals and speaker of even more outrageous statements, United fans welcomed Zlatan Ibrahimovic amidst the din that Wales and Iceland have been making at Euro 2016. This is how he made the announcement. I expected no less from the man who speaks about himself in third person on Twitter. He wasn’t in the best form during the Euro though, so that has me a wee bit worried, I’ll admit.

And while the whole world is going gaga over Zlatan, another (possibly more important) signing is that of Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Thank God I’m only writing his name — I have no clue how to pronounce it (eventually will, I suppose). An attacking winger/midfielder is what his profile states. We could do with an attacking presence in midfield.

But does Zlatan + Henrikh automatically guarantee a barrage of goals? Only time will tell.

What about The Special One?

I’ve been supporting Manchester United for 15 years. In those 15 years, I’ve never been pissed off at any manager more than Jose Mourinho. Among all managers during the Sir Alex reign, Mourinho’s record against the big man was the best — more wins than losses. Mourinho always knew how to win the big games. He’s won the Champions League with 4 different clubs (as far as I remember), and won league titles in 4 different countries.

But Mourinho was egotistical, a general douche and not a very pleasant person. And now, he will be managing Manchester United.

Everything’s simmering quietly, as I’ve said. Mourinho and Zlatan could be a battle within a battle (but I believe Zlatan has no problem working with Mourinho, so that should be a relief). Mkhitaryan might still emerge as the dark horse. Whatever’s said and done, all will be revealed only on August 13th — the day the Premier League begins.

Until then, all we can do is sit calmly and wait…

If you’re looking forward to the Premier League as much as I am, tap the little green heart at the bottom!
