You don’t really want a six pack. What you want in gaining a six pack is what most people hope to gain in achieving a six pack; a status symbol. For some people it’s a sport’s car, for other people it’s a bachelor’s degree. What they all have in common is that they are signifiers of worthiness or specialness. After all, not everyone can own a sport’s car, a bachelor’s degree, or a six pack of abs. For most people, these things are high hanging fruits that require a degree of hard work and discipline to maintain that the average person does not have.

But that’s not always the case, especially when it comes to having a six pack. You see, there are some people for whom six pack abs is a birth right. They could be genetic freaks or they could have the short compacted physique that makes it easy for them to have a six pack. It’s a lot easier to build a six pack when you have a short torso to begin with or you have an ectomorph body type that predisposes you to the low levels of body fat that allow your six pack to show in the first place.

These are the people who you are most likely to see in the ads that show young, fit, smiling people playing on the beach or the cover of Men’s health or a Maxim magazine. And when you see them, and their impossibly sculpted abs, you start to get this idea in your head that if you had such a beautiful torso, that you would receive the same amount of reverence, respect, and attention. You think your life would be much better. But would it?

Yes and No.

Yes, because the life style change that you would take up to gain a six pack would build self discipline and self confidence.

No, if you are doing it for reasons purely related to external validation. If you are doing it for this reason, you are sending a signal to your subconscious mind that tells it to prioritize the validation of others.

But if you are still not convinced that you really do not want a six pack, let’s look at a few things that you will have to endure along the way to fashioning a spectacular transverse abdominis.

A Diet Devoid of Joy

Once you set your mind on achieving a sick pack, your days of pigging out are over. You can kiss your Coca Colas and Cup Cakes good bye. High Sugar intake is not conducive to the low body fat percentage that you need for your six pack to show. Instead, plan on eating meals comprised of lean meat and leafy green vegetables, FOREVER!

10 Thousand Different AB Exercises

Since your not a genetic freak - otherwise you would already have a six pack -your going to have to set out on a arduous journey to figure out what combination of ab exercises you need to sculpt your midsection.

You might end up on your back for 45 minutes out of the day doing a myriad of Pilates exercises. Or you might have to work out other parts of your body with exercises that are indirectly related to your core, such as: weighted dips, weighted pull ups, or uphill sprints. It might take you a while to figure out which combination of exercises is effective. You also may end up with a bad back or a muscular imbalance from doing ineffective exercises that people say are good for your abs, like sit-ups.

Spending an inordinate amount of time on diet and exercise

Working out on your abs consumes a lot of time. In addition to doing your “ab workout”, you’ll also be doing cardio and strength training to burn the fat and build the muscles for your six pack. You’ll also spend a lot of your time eating 4 or 5 small meals a day to keep your metabolic rate up and to aid in protein synthesis. Building and Maintaining your abs will be like constantly having to look after a small child. You have to take full responsibility.

If you truly desire to have a six pack set of abs, it can be done. But is it worth the amount of time, energy, and emotions that you will have to invest? Or could you be using that time, energy, and emotion in some other area of your life that will have a greater return on investment? Just think about it is all I’m saying.

Stay up, stay solid

peace.
