Former national netball/sevens rugby squad member Matila Waqanidrola makes her debut for Nadroga A in the Punjas/Digicel National Netball Championship at the Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka today.

The Serua native makes her return to netball since joining the Fijiana 7s team last year.

She will team up with national goal defender Episake Kahatoka (GD).

The Batiri, Nadroga native, who is a policewoman by profession, has been part of the Stallions side this year participating in the club games for Nadroga Lilians.

Nadroga Netball Association president Mili Naituyaga expects tough competition.

“Overall it will be tough as Suva and Nasinu will be fielding a lot of national reps,” she said.

“This is the first time for us to host the national event here and we are very thankful to Netball Fiji for moving the event to our doorsteps.”

Meanwhile, Navosa will be the favourites in the U21 category despite losing 27–25 to the Talei Waqanibete- captained Suva side during the inaugural Punjas/Digicel Youth Netball Cup at Lawaqa Park on June 4.

The side has the services of Ivamere Soko (GS), Anei Labakara (WA), Mereidani Natoba (GA), Mereia Naramasa (GD) and Raijieli Navabale (GD) and featuring 20 year old Karishma Dass (WD).

Navosa Netball executive Judy Kumar said the association will be fielding four teams– two in U21 and two in the major division.
