Don’t Be A Fool

Know your limits; work on what matters.

W.C. Fields once said:

“If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Then quit. No use being a damn fool about it.”

At first the quote seems to be humorous, and it is, but he is really touching on something profound. All too often people waste their time on something that just isn’t meant to be. They ignore the signs and “persevere” only to keep failing.

Why is this so dangerous? I’ll ask this, what else could you be trying to achieve if you weren’t wasting your time with something that will never come to fruition? You really have to look at your situation and be brutally honest with yourself.

If there is something you are really struggling with, it’s time to examine your work and see if it’s really meant to be. You could be destined to do something truly great, but you’ll never know until you stop throwing your time away on something unfruitful.

Here is your action item for today: make a list of all the projects and jobs you have. List them in order of the greatest amount of strife you have pertaining to each; the highest magnitude being first. For each piece of work, ask yourself this very important question: Am I just persevering for perseverance’s sake?

Do work that is meaningful, creates value and brings you joy. Don’t discard your time just because you are stubborn.
