IOT: crucibles of iron online

I read, for the first time today, an article that perceived something close to what we’re working on… maybe I don’t read enough.

IOT is an industrial trend coming to the foreground, a trend that has been moving for some time. The market is massive. Like industry. There is no unified system that pulls it all together, YET. The data of IOT will make twitter and facebook, even google, look like a flash drive.

(((I find solace in the disbelief of the VC’s that have told us to come again at a future date. Machineparty, the idea, is complcated and simple at the same time. It’s the ozone that we breath, everywhere, yet we can’t see it. It’s refreshing to be riding the early stages of something so simple and yet pivotal.)))

Every 1T of iron required about 600–700kw to melt. I usually just rounded up to 1MW in order to capture all the power used in the downstream processing. Generally, sensors and switches to generate feedback and reduce power consumption on a very basic level. Engineers dream up different ways to reduce power consumption and cut production time. This is all well know. Whenever melting 1T of iron, or 20T/hr, I considered a simple tweak that saves 0.5% to be the savings of many households per year.

I used to calculate things like this during startups.

Everyone seems to know light bulbs and street lamps. These are the portals of electricity and thus industry. People see these things and dream of ideas.

Is the market of IOT $7 trillion? Why not more? I think it’s more…

No matter the money, feedback and data in industry is what will give society the biggest push forward. And this is what Machineparty is working towards:

Towards the Evolution of Industry.
