World Water Week Day 1

It’s the first day of the world water week today. WWW is an annual events hosted by Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI). This year, they address their theme “Water and waste, reduce and reuse”. The four meetings I chose to attended including:
- Balancing competing Interests and harnessing opportunities for better wastewater governance

We discuss the importance of wastewater issues, and the challenges of governance.
For example:
- Coordination of actors with different interests across sectors, and systems with multiple technologies
- Improved regulatory oversight required from controlling source pollution, treatment standards, quality of by-products
Afterwards, some case studies were given. People from India, Jordan, Bolivia talked about how they worked on implementing the waste water facilities.
2.Water in circular economy: opportunity and challenges.
3.Plastic soup and dead zones: Source prevention for cleaner seas

In this session, Andreas Frossberg, who works in “Keep Sweden Tidy ” organization, talked about their aim of maintaining the coastal and marine ecosystem, and their project.Olcay Unver, who works in FAO, explain the project “ Source to sea ”(S2S).
4.Understand the gender dimension of water and waste
It is the session that I enjoyed most today. We had lot of discussion on recommendation that we wanted to give to those politician or authorities. We also reflected on the current “quantitative” equality instead of the “qualitative” equality in which women have the influence in decision making.
