80/20 Focus

Instead of carrying out your duty in regard to my holy things, you put others in charge of my sanctuary. Ezekiel 44:8

I remember the time when Ps Eugene shared the 80/20 principle (or was it 90/10) — many spend 80% of their time what others could also do for them, and 20% on what only they can do, end up frustrating themselves and not doing what’s really important.

In many ways, the important things being the calling God has called us,specific to us. While someone else can run my business (like now), there cannot be a surrogate father, and no one who will the spiritual gatekeeper of the family.

And when we are unfaithful to what God has specifically set us aside to do — whatever the calling may be, at that place and time that He has called us to, to that friend, to the family member, we cannot expect fruitfulness.

Writing this while trying to get Ian to sleep — quite honestly, won’t trade this moment for anything else (maybe I will be slightly less keen when he’s wailing.. haha). Remembering the season of confusion when I was making decisions regarding work; not that there’s full clarity but at least at this moment, I know what the 80% I should be focusing on. Being a father to this blessing God has given to me — not just for this moment, but because I know full well, that this is also a ministry, specific to this season of my life, that God has called me to. There’s no clearer calling to the next generation than actually raising up God’s child to me.
