When reading all these Pokemon Go related letters, articles, updates, etc. I always feel that a minority is being forgotten about: Rural players. Pokemon Go, as it stands now, is geared towards larger population centers. This is done in a few ways, so let me explain.

  1. Spawning is at least somewhat related to cellular activity. While I’m sure many other factors go into deciding how often pokemon spawn this does have an impact meaning any major population center will see an increased spawning rate when compared to a town of say 100 people.
  2. Pokestops (and gyms for that matter) are far and few in most rural areas. This means lures are far less effective than in a big city where people can sit around 8 relatively close stops and rake in the pokemon.
  3. Communities are small in rural areas. This one might not seem like a big deal but look at any of the crowd sourced sighting maps like “Gotta Catch ’em All” which is only in Boston. You don’t get this kind of help in rural areas. Even if you still think community sighting maps are cheating or unfair, just think about the people. If someone finds a dragonite in a big city, chances are someone will be shouting it out to let others know.

To sum this up (TLDR) Rural areas have few spawns, few pokestops, and few people.

Now you might be asking, how does this pertain to Pokevision? Pokevision helps make the few spawns count and also makes up for the lack of people helping you. I personally was out more hunting for pokemon when there was some form of tracking (Pokevision/3-Step). Without this it seems almost pointless because it’s so difficult to find anything really.

There is another big reason as to why I personally want Pokevision for my town, but I don’t think it has a place in this response. If you want to know feel free to ask me in a reply.

I guess my dream of being a pokemon master must wait. Come on Pikachu, we have a pidgey to go struggle to catch.
