Stop stressing that women should go to self-defense classes or walk around with mini-weapons. Stop pretending that what women wear has ultimate control over the actions of others. Stop giving more weight to where women should go and what women should or shouldn’t do in order for us to prevent someone from raping us.
Until this happens, we have to wake up and realize that the underpaid and overworked women who prepare and serve our meals, clean our businesses and homes, and take care of the nation’s elderly all while earning wages that simply aren’t enough to survive with are the true heroes in our society.
“Late-capitalistic semantic drain” sounds like its own uniquely hellish bullshit neologism. But I swear it does mean something: the lack of meaning spreading through English, driven by a corporate monoculture devoted solely to profit.
…to be the most progressive presidential platform in modern U.S. history, and that’s cause for hope. But universal health care, education, and childcare will only take us so far in a society where work is still considered our principal reason for being alive. As long as overwork reigns supreme, millions of us will continue to find ourselves strapped for the time and space to fully benefit from new parity measures. Failure to recognize and uphold the dignity in being human will sabotage the party’s vision and leave most of us just as tired, angry, and anxiety-stricken as we are today.
