In my life, achieving personal goals for the sake of ego eventually stopped being fulfilling. It seems like a lot of people end up casting about wildly from goal to goal without realizing the fundamental problem is that adults just don’t feel satisfied working only for themselves and their own desires, e.g. getting more money and degrees and traveling and awards.
The only way to escape that cycle is to look beyond the horizons of our egos and work for the sake of others. That’s what worked for me, anyway. It feels good to shift your focus from yourself to those in your community. It is liberating.
