Another thing helping the U.S. out is the apparent lull in talent overseas. Most of the international teams either have promising young stars who are too green, but who might make them competitive in the next Olympics (Serbia, Australia), or they’re coasting on older talent that the national pool has not yet replenished (Spain, Argentina), or they’re stuck somewhere in between (France).

Also, the US has two centers for which no other country has any type of answer, and we’ve got a decent number of good shooters this year. This is not an Olympics that’s going to require a Dream Team.
