How Your Future Depends on this One Thing
There’s no good reason why every person on this planet can’t lead a meaningful, abundant life.
While many argue there’s a lack of resources, I’m going to demonstrate how the opposite is true. It all comes down to value creation.
First, What is Value?
When you have entire countries trading with other countries economics looks really complex. But if you take a 1000 foot view, it can be simplified to the following — make something others want and trade it for something else.
OK cool, how do you create it?
Virtually all value is created using just 3 main ingredients — sunlight; raw materials such carbon, iron, oxygen, hydrogen; silicon, etc; and human ingenuity.
Let’s take a look at some examples…
Light from the Sun hits the Earth’s surface.
Plants use this energy and transform it into plant material using photosynthesis. Animals eat plants in order grow. Other animals eat those animals. And all of these living things form an ecology (an interrelated system of living things).
For humans, one of the biggest breakthroughs in the past 10,000 years or so, has been crop cultivation and herding animals for food.
We’re told by scientists, at certain points in the distant past, some cataclysm comes crashing down and covers large areas in mud.
When there are high densities of living things in the vicinity, they get buried.
Over time, layers of mud and rock build upon the first ones. Eventually, the pressure becomes so great, a chemical reaction occurs, transforming dead plant and animal material into crude oil — the stuff we use to make gasoline, oil, plastics, and a whole bunch of other things.
The Sun’s light heats up oceans, rivers and lakes. Water evaporates into the atmosphere. At certain altitudes, the water forms clouds and eventually precipitates into rain.
When the rain hits the land, it collects into rivers.
Along some of those rivers, we build hydro-electric dams to generate electricity.
Earth is mined for iron sand. The iron sand is processed into iron using electricity and carbon.
Iron is then taken to manufacturing plants where panels, engines, and other components are moulded and fabricated.
Generally speaking, in this way, the 3 components— sunlight, raw materials, and human ingenuity — are synthesized to create the myriad forms of economic value.
Wars are fought over control of resources — especially energy, because when you have lots of energy, you can create anything your economy needs.
We Already Have an Unlimited Energy Source
Energy, from sunlight hitting the Earth’s surface, equates to roughly 10,000 times the amount used by the total of ALL the world’s industries, at any given time.
So, we already have access to virtually unlimited energy. If that’s the case, why aren’t we using more of it?
Sustainable Energy — Demonstrated 100 Years Ago
Although several innovators had limited success before him, Frank Shuman first demonstrated the viability of solar energy back in 1912.
He built the world’s first solar thermal power station in Maadi, Egypt, driving a 60–70 horsepower steam engine that pumped 6,000 gallons of water per minute from the Nile River to adjacent cotton fields.
Imagine being able to harvest crops in the desert with an inexhaustible energy source.
What a breakthrough.
But then, World War I broke out and during this period, the machinery was destroyed.
Engineers returned home and Shuman died before the war ended, preventing him from rebuilding the project.
Quantum Leaps in Technology
Since 1912 we’ve had remarkable advances in technology in the form of materials science; computers; robotics; automation; miniaturisation; and more.
So why do most of our industries still run predominantly on energy from oil, coal, and Uranium?
The discovery of cheap oil in the 1930’s, stymied the advancement of solar energy and other alternatives.
The good news is, in the past few decades, there’s been a big resurgence in this area.
It’s possible for every person, even the poorest of us, to have an abundant life.
All it takes for everyone to become aware… aware that things don’t need to be the way they are.
The key is value creation and as I’ve shown here, value can be synthesised from just 3 main ingredients — sunlight, raw materials, and human ingenuity.
That’s why I’m so big on personal productivity and helping people to create value at accelerated rates.
That’s my mission, really.
