Top 10 Vim Plugins for Writers

Vim is not necessarily the first thing that comes to mind when you think of writing. Actually it probably isn’t, but maybe it should be. These ten plugins help to make Vim a great environment for prose writers to capitalize on it’s enormous editing potential.

I wrote this list using Vim; I use Vim for everything from configuration files to novels. It should be noted, however, that I am not a programmer. I started using Vim coming from a prose background, rather than a coding background. If you haven’t considered Vim as a writing tool, maybe give it a try and look into these excellent plugins.

10. Writable Search

This allows you to search for a particular string within multiple files, display the context of those search results and edit them together.

For instance you could search for the term “Texas”, display notes than include that word, then change “Texas” to “Florida” as well as change any of the surrounding text.

9. Signature
