share conversations from discord

Idea

I like discord. I spend a lot of time on it and decreased my time on other social media. When I talk, I generally know who I’m talking to. It is also very customizable. Servers can be how the community wants them to work. In March, amreio had an event called ‘Kimo’ where artists draw every day for a month. If for any reason someone missed posting a new drawing for a day, they will be kicked out of the server. It is a good way to motivate people to keep drawing.

A thought came about the ones who got…

After Anthony Jones’ mentorship, I didn’t know what to do next. I mentioned in my last post that I considered continuing the 6 sketches project suggested to me by Steven Zapata. The stuff I did for it is really bad and I tried polishing them just to see how I feel about it. I figured that I did not have enough skill to do it. Most of the project will be depicting a world from a story that my friend wrote. For most of my artistic journey, I’ve only really studied figures. Figure drawing, anatomy, portraits, anything to do with…

A sketch of a man overlooking a vast landscape at night.

I feel like I learned a lot this week. I read “Framed Ink” in one day, might have gone through it too quickly. Also did the assignment for Ahmed Aldoori’s “Lighting for Painting Heads/Faces” tutorial. I decided to do Ahmed’s tutorial since the exercise for this week is doing shadow shape thumbnails. First, I had to study the face for some time before I started doing the assignment to refresh my memory about the face planes. Then I extracted the lighting scenarios from three images just as Ahmed instructed, and rendered my face sketches according to the three lighting situations…

If you don’t already know, I love art. I love looking at them, and I try to make my own as well. I’ve been drawing since childhood, but I started getting kinda serious about it about 5 years ago when I bought my first drawing tablet. From then on I tried improving on my own. Watching youtube videos, reading about art concepts to make my art better. You could see most of my artwork on my instagram page.

There are a lot more that I didn’t put online. My current skill isn’t at the level that I want it to…

Finally made an app worth something?

Why

Late last year, I was introduced to Blockstack through Lambda School. At that point, I was about to finish 7 months long Full Stack web development course. Which means I needed to start my job search pretty soon. However, I didn’t want to do that… yet.

Since high school, I have a vague image of what I will be doing in the future. Building cool things, not other people’s ideas but my own. Taking a job means I would not be seeing that vision. So I delayed my job search and tried to look for other ways to make a…

Fun xD

I got really lucky to be a member of a team like mine at LambdaSchool. Its a diverse group in terms of experience, and race, we don’t have a girl on our team. They are really great, one, in particular, have worked at GitHub prior to going to LambdaSchool.

He has some really good insights about GitHub. It very interesting to know how people work in GitHub. He also teaches us some git and GitHub tips and tricks here and there. And we appreciate it. …

Make Something

My daily standup with the team is always interesting. If one of us encounters a problem stopping them from making progress with the project, we will look at the code together and try to solve it. Today was the same but we ended early and just got talking about life. We reached to what how to find one’s goals or interests.

I’m fairly young, but I already worry about what my life will be like 20 years from now. I’ve read blogs, some self-help books, comments? …

I learned React on my own a couple months ago. The learning materials I consumed are the tutorial on the official react page and various tutorial videos on YouTube. I am aware that I have some gaps in my understanding of react. This week, we will be learning react from the very basic concepts up. I am excited to learn more about react!

With my current knowledge, I can build simple react apps but I encounter problems along the way that I spend hours trying to solve. Hopefully after this next 5 weeks, I know enough about react that I…

privacy is ‘key’

As I was sharing the app that I made this week, a thought came into my head. My friends entered dummy text into the app trying it out. I haven’t implemented editing and deleting entries yet, so I wanted to delete my entries by manually deleting it in the database. As I looked for it, I accidentally looked into other user’s entries. Normally when I am just testing things it’s fine if I could read it but when I have real users, they might write something confidential.

If I could read it, somebody else could too. As a user of…

Will continue building

My first build week is over now. I have built the landing page, and the react app at the last 8 hours before demos. I was able to do it because I was referencing my other react app I worked on for a couple months stArtRef.io. While I was trying to learn react.js, I was also building startref. For me to learn quickly, I need to get my hands dirty. Startref was actually broken a couple of time and I had to restart. I learned much with those failures.

Our app is a journaling app, and this is my interpretation…
