I can’t speak for the black community, you have unique and difficult challenges. But I don’t feel comfortable with letting allies create those groups themselves on behalf of the Mexican immigrant community I’m a part of. At some point, a first-person perspective is necessary, and while I don’t think it’s necessarily “fair” or “right” that the oppressed groups are educating the oppressors, at some point I feel like… If we don’t advocate for ourselves, who else will? If I want to end police brutality, am I going to wait and hope police officers will start that discussion on their own? I want my voice to be a part of that discussion.
