Service Work Is Skilled Work. Get Over It.
Hanna Brooks Olsen

The problem is workers are paid relative to the value of the product they create/cook etc and how much profit they can generate for the company hiring them.

Sure a starbucks barista requires skills to make that venti triple shot soy latte with whipped cream. But when they charge $3–5 for it, how much profit can a company get from that employee when they have to pay the employee $15 an hour? It’s an unsustainable business model. The only way it continues to work is they pass on those costs to the consumers. Now your $3–5 drink is $6–10. The prices for everything else then follow suit and $15 an hour is no longer a living wage. #inflation
