When you read the news, you start each morning by granting dozens of strangers unfiltered access to your brain, and most of the time they use that access to take a giant dump inside it.

This is about the most pertinent description of “news” I’ve come across and summarizes one of the reasons I’ve shied away from it myself. I believe it has been further exacerbated by the fact that “bad news is good news” seems to be the motto these days and thus that giant dump is a rarely more than a heap of negativity! Not the greatest way to either become wiser or to kick-start a happy, productive day.
