I thnk this is a very astute article. Apple has gone far, FAR beyond the tech crowd with their devices, particularly the iPhone. You literally cannot spit in any direction while out in public without hitting someone that has an iPhone (really, try it, it’s a blast). When every teenager, business man, toddler and grandma in a muumuu uses an iPhone daily, you know that the game is much bigger than appealing to a few tech nerds that read articles like this. I think you are absolutely right, Apple is playing a much longer game than many realize and the pace they’ve adopted is clearly working, with a billion devices sold. Remember everyone, Apple has been “dead” for 30-odd years now but somehow became the biggest company on Earth, so I think it’s fair to say they have a workable model, even when we don’t all see it immediately.
