I am not specifically a religious person since I was raised with the experiences of numerous schools of thought, from Catholicism to the Metaphysical. But the “fear” of God is one thing I always had a problem with and did extensive studying on since I felt the same way. Why would I be afraid of Him if He has perfect love for me? The use of the word “fear” in this sense does not mean to actually be afraid. It means the desire to please and not disappoint. So in a way it is saying if you hold God in such high regard and respect, you wouldn’t want to behave in a manner that might make him look down on you. And that correlates to what you would have God decide about you on Judgment Day. I am satisfied with that interpretation regardless of my particular beliefs or lack thereof.
