Reaching for the stars, collectively.

Greetings one and all,

During our first community call, we had the pleasure of having CTO Hoon Kim join us to discuss Astar updates, data that’s on-chain/off-chain, and some other light-hearted topics. Needless to say, there was a lot talked about and no absence of corny humor from me.

Here are the highlights of the call. Enjoy!

Updates

🇯🇵 Fukuoka City is designated as a national special strategic zone. Startups have access to unique consultation and funding resources. Fukuoka is the 1st local government to join Astar Japan Lab & support our initiative to accelerate the adoption of web3. Astar will support them with entrepreneurship education for startups, connect local businesses with a global market, and bring capital, companies, and workforce from abroad.

“ Fukuoka’s ecosystem is sort of the start of me.” — Hoon

🌉 Polkadot Summit is a full day conference taking place on November 3, 2022 in San Francisco at the historic Fort Mason Center. It’s main purpose is to present Polkadot Ecosystem Developments to SF Blockchain Week attendees. Astar Network is producing the Polkadot Summit and will host top Parachain teams, Core Parity team members, and Polkadot parachain infrastructure providers. This event will host 400 people including academics, developers, VCs, students, enterprises, retail investors and blockchain aficionados.

“ …it’s really about connections right and these conferences are always perfect opportunities to make valuable connections.” — Hoon

🌟 Astar’s 1st WASM showcase dApp is here: Uniswap-V2 DEX Written in ink! language. A native DEX will jump start the new WASM ecosystem.

“ …the developers will feel the difference when they’re actually writing this contract and then trying to extend this to add new features.” — Hoon

On the topic of dating apps and its information stored on-chain:

“Well it depends on on your dating life yeah? If that’s your kink, then I’m not gonna kink shame you.” — Hoon

“The chain that holds my data would be empty. Those blocks would not have any information because it’s forever alone here.” — Ramz

Hoon gave a in-depth analysis on what it really means to be “on-chain” and what service it can provide to us all. He touched upon its immutable and public state and he questioned the justification for it when collected.

“It really boils down to using blockchain as a method of obtaining consensus.” — Hoon

A handful of community questions were also answered during the call. Listen back to the call if you’re intrigued:

What’s the difference between EVM and WASM?
What sets aside Astar from Moonbeam?
You from Idaho (Hoon)?
In regard to Polygon and the Sunflower event: High demand of block-space, parallel transactions; Do we need another layer2 solution?

Shout out to the following users for the great questions and topics brought up!

  • Markoto @bcryptofun
  • defiguy @defiguy22
  • Dustin Lee @imcryptohustler
  • Everythingaltcoin.eth @Everything_Alt

We ended the community call with a song titled “Hero” from the anime One-Punch Man. A fitting end and how I personally see our Astar community.

See you next time. Keep it one-punchy.
