Penguins having fun at Club Penguin

Say goodbye to all your time because Club Penguin Online is back and dig up your old CD from Fergie’s first solo album.

What if you don’t have a Switch? What if you don’t play Animal Crossing New Horizons? None of that matters because the game that raised Generation Y zoomers and Generation Z cuspies are back online after three years of inactivity.

The hugely popular online multiplayer game was relaunched earlier this week, and it already has 6 million “penguins registered,” according to its official Twitter account. Club Penguin was made public in 2005 and reached a peak of popularity when Disney acquired it. By launching an application, the site celebrated its 150 million users, but the interest faded, and in 2017 it was closed.

But we never forgot Club Penguin, we remembered it in the memes. In fact, one of the first major TikTok accounts was a Club Penguin meme account that aspired to simpler days. And a continuation of the game, Club Penguin Rewritten, was available during the break from the official game.

Club Penguin Online is a private game server inspired by the Disney game. It’s a virtual world where players live like penguins, making pieces to decorate their igloos, “buying” puffles, and dating with their classmates. Back then, you could earn bragging rights if you had been kicked from the game, a policy that, to swear, is still in place.

The virtual world was dotted with games that brought you to ice fishing and sledding. You could work in a pizzeria or as a spy. And if you were truly committed, you begged your parents to pay for a month-long membership in Club Penguin, which cost around $5.

When it was reintroduced, the sport experienced an influx of students and high schools, confined to their youth rooms, no doubt plunged into nostalgia. Club Penguin was the way we spent time with our friends after college, and those same players come back to hang out with friends and classmates they can’t be with because of canceled orders and classes. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Gen Z even hosts graduation ceremonies on Club Penguin Online, parties, birthday parties, and group treatment sessions.

Remember to line up with your friends to make sure you’re all playing on the same server when you reconnect. It’s not surprising that the servers are overwhelming, so be patient when logging in.

It couldn’t be a better time for the return of online gaming, with rich content and games like Animal Crossing and many hours at home. Club Penguin Online offers a sense of community and nostalgia.
