Associative NFTs
X,Y Project is a fully on-chain NFT. This means that the attributes, metadata, and even the images are all stored on the blockchain (Ethereum in our case). It is open, tamper-resistant, and decentralized.
As a result, the image is pretty basic... just a simple set of coordinates on top of a static background. This is minimalist and cool in some ways, but also pretty bland in terms of NFT art. So, we are building ways to upgrade and enhance X,Y Project without replacing the NFT or diluting the project with more NFTs. Your original X,Y Project Coordinate should grant you exclusive access to everything in the X,Y Project ecosystem.
Enter Associative NFTs
First coined by the “Loot Character” project (as far as we know), Associative NFTs are simply a way to create a New NFT that is forever linked to an Original NFT.
How it works
- After mint, the New NFT is tied to the Original NFT. In other words, wherever your Original NFT goes, so goes your New NFT.
- This makes the New NFT transferable but only if you transfer or sell your Original NFT.
Associative X,Y Project NFTs are coming soon, starting with X,Y World which shows your in-game land and also X,Y Squad which will beplayable avatars. Both of these (and hopefully more in the future) will be tied to a specific X,Y Project Coordinate. So, if you own the X,Y Project Coordinate, you also own ALL of the Associative NFTs linked to it.
Why associative?
- Non-dilutive: This is a great way to introduce more utility, assets, and value into the X,Y Project ecosystem, without diluting the project with more and more separate NFT collections.
- Investment in your own assets: Minting an Associative NFT that is linked to your existing X,Y Project Coordinate is a way to consolidate value instead of fragmenting it. You could think of it as an investment in your existing assets, since you are adding on instead of splitting off.

With Associative NFTs, you get exclusive access to all the linked assets, and they go wherever your X,Y Project Coordinate goes. So, owning the underlying X,Y Project Coordinate NFT is all that matters.
