Sarah’s story, the journey to Tokyo 2020
“I was born with a condition called Fibular Hemimelia essentially meaning I was missing my Fibula bone and a small foot on my right leg. My parents made the decision to have my foot amputated when I was 17 months old and I’ve worn a prosthetic leg ever since.
Growing up I played lots of sport but Athletics the sport I fell in love with. I tried every event possible but Long Jump was the event I was best at and liked the most.
In 2014 I was invited to represent Australia at the Glasgow International Indoor Match were I came 2nd in the below knee amputee Long Jump.
The following year 2015, I was selected as part of the Australian Team for the World Para Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar and placed 6th overall in the long jump also jumping a PB.
2016 was a dream come true when I competed at the Paralympics in Rio once again placing 6th in Long Jump.
Last year at the World Para Athletics Championships in London I placed 4th in Long Jump narrowly missing the bronze medal position. This has given me so much drive and determination to podium at Tokyo 2020 Paralympics”.
