People have been interested in survival, health, and fitness since prehistoric times. They have also been interested in longevity. Eating habits and lifestyle have been found to be the most important factors so far.

One of my favourite quotes is by Anthelme Brillat-Savarin written in 1826:

Dis-moi ce que tu manges, je te dirai ce que tu es,

which translates to:

“Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are.”

What is the Gut Microbiome?

The gut is full of microorganisms — bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa — that are collectively known as the gut microbiome. This microbiome varies at different life stages in the same individual and also differs among individuals with varying lifestyles and eating habits.
