Let me tell you why looks are important

Never judge a book by its cover they say, But you do anyway.

Let me start with a confession: I always judge a book by its cover.

Every time I am walking the aisles of a bookstore or a library, scanning the shelves for something interesting to buy or borrow; I find that the books I eventually pick up to read the blurbs behind are the ones that have very well designed covers. I don’t even bother picking a book if the cover is ugh except someone I trust has recommended it to me. Now, this might be because I have designers eye, but I don’t think designers are the only people that this happens to, it happens to everyone. The book publishers know that in order to give what is within the book a fighting chance, they have to attract the potential reader with the cover.

And this is why I think looks are important.

People have been wired to be attracted to pretty things, its not shallowness, its nature. Or maybe nature is shallow, whatever. This effect is so strong that people generally tend to assume that a pretty or "beautiful" person is generally "better" even in non-physically related attributes. This is a thing, I swear; its called the Halo Effect.

What am I saying?

Understanding that being attracted to beautiful things is nature, you need to take this into account when dealing with other human beings, especially if you want them to like you. So whether it’s the way you dress or the way you decorate your house, putting a little more effort could be the difference between being liked or being forgotten. Or something.
