Gee, don’t dive into deep subjects or anything like that, also, I wonder if the current worldwide tick toward nationalism is pushing back on international adoption of a general language, e.g. English as you suggested. Starting to play out in India to some extent as certain geographies in India have been suggested to adopt Hindi spoken and written where the modern times and career evolution seem to religiously gravitate toward English. Who knows how that will play out.
You are correct about mass adoption in diverse dialect countries. China official language is mandated as Mandarin, however of course Cantonese is still widely used/spoken in parts of China plus a slew of others. Like India, the younger set in China pick up some English probably due to English’s ties to world economic activity. Of course nowadays Asians don’t need to travel to the west to smuggle iPhones and the like anymore, some Asian countries allow conditional sales of western gadgets even though almost all electronics is produced in Eastern Asia, what?, go figure?
So around the world, the world is not ready for ‘ It’s the English, Stupid!’, maybe in the future, I mean, try that in France.
