Yala National Park is the second largest national park in Sri Lanka. It is about 300 km from Colombo. Its location is in the Uva and Southern Provinces and the nearest town to the park is Hambantota. It is one of the most important national parks in the country, spread over a large area southwest of Sri Lanka. Although the reserve covers an area of 979 square kilometers, only 141 square kilometers is open to tourists.
Yala Reserve is considered to be one of the largest living reserves in the world. Although most of the reserve is wetland, it is a national park with a wide range of ecological conditions such as wildlife coastal areas, springs, rivers and scrubland. Among the large animals that live here are Asian elephants, crocodiles, wild boars, wild boars and gray parrots.
