Visualizing bike routes
Today I’m looking into geospatial path using this convenient dataset that contains SF bike sharing routes from Sep 15 to Jan 16.
An initial inspection shows biking within SF is mainly used more for functional rather than leisurely purposes, most likely for commute to work/school etc. It also shows 7–9am and 16–18pm are peak hours.
To figure out the top routes, I connected the start/end station with curves and faceted by peak hours, coloring start station in red and end station in orange. The plot highlighted hotspots like Ferry Building and 2nd at Townsend.
This is #day32 of my #100dayprojects on data science and visual storytelling. Full code on my github. Thanks for reading and feedbacks are welcomed.
