This is the second of series we did around Bergen area. According to my standard, this is best hiking area I have ever been. Cheap and convenient public transport, Astonishingly beautiful scenaries, friendly locals..

Preikestolen is one of the three most mavelous signt in Norway fjord region. Again this note is meant to help those who are looking to do this hiking, not a personal travel journal.

To begin with, most convenient “base” for this hike is actually in Stavanger, capital of norwegian oil industry. The city itself is pretty charming with a nice old city central and a harbour. You can easily find a nice Airbnb room. And Stavanger is worth at least one day, if you are into the history of Norway.

Now to prepare your hike, first thing good to know is that it’s much easier than the trolltunga. Basically anyone with a average physical condition can do it. Just need to prepare a nice lunch. The round hike takes less than 5hours including breaks and lunch.

For the transport, you can take the ferry to a small village called “Tau”, then there is a half an hour bus ride to the starting point. Don’t worry the bus will be waiting with your ferrry arrives. However, it’s advisable to book the ferry+bus ticket in advance.

Once arrived at the starting point, you are ready to start. The hiking route is one of the most beautifully rewarding routes I’ve ever been. Different landscapes and forests will pop up in front of your eyes. It’s really suggested to take the first ferry bus to avoid the crowds. As it’s easy, there are often more people than you think. The lignting and weather is also nicer in the morning. As we are at the beginning of May, there was a REAL blizzard when we board the ferry and lasted for around 30 minutes before sun comes out! And as we climb, it’s jusst magical to see the fjord forest covered ( a little bit) in snow with sunshine on it, before the snow turned rapidly to vapors.

At last, it’s worth mentionning that the cafe at the starting point/parking place has a stunning view. You should definately should pay it a visit!
