A standing desk is more a luxurious way of extending the number of ways you’re able to work. Sitting is only bad if you aren’t moving at all. But we constantly adjust the way we’re sitting and standing and these suttle movements are what make us more comfortable and relief some stress from our body parts.

A standing desk allows you to shift the load to other areas of your body which may result in less problems.

Also consider that standing allows to make bigger movements and therefore can lead to a more active body. This can have the effect of making you more awake.

Also feeling the weakness of your legs after some time might help you to keep track of the duration you’ve been working for without a break.

My final thoughts on this:

A standig desk is a luxury which allows you to shift the way you work and might have some positive physiological effects. However I think it’s always important to check the duration that you work for and how many breaks you take. Often other aspects (a bad chair, wrong monitor height, wrong desk height) can cause way bigger trouble than sitting itself.

I myself love to work on a standing desk when doing something with a college, as two chairs can me cumbersome.

Don’t let studies drive you crazy, your body will usually tell you what’s good. (for reference pain is usually bad ;)…)
