An Intovert’s View of Gyms

Going to gym is part of my schedule twice a week. I am successfully trying to keep that going 100% of the time. Having in mind to increase that somewhen soon.

Whilst usually spending about 1–1.5 hours in that sweaty area, I do not talk much. Saying hi to the trainers and explaining how my progress is going. And that is kind of it in most of the sessions. Occasionally, I politely ask people if they are still using a particular exercising machine or if it is unoccupied. Summing up all the time I spend talking in gym, it would most likely be less than 1%. I appreciate that it works in that way and I would not want to change that.

Anyhow, even though the gym I go is usually pretty uncrowded, there are some people who got a talking style which is quite the opposite of mine. Talking about how exquisite their breakfast was, how their dog got a new friend or how their coffee machine started talking to them are some of the things they talk about.

Fine. I got the point. You do not always got the opportunity to catch up with people. And when you suddenly run into them in gym, you gossip there. There is nothing wrong with that, as you are free to do what you want to do.

But, when you start fancy talking about your life story in every detail, whilst blocking the machines, that is a total NO-GO.

Talking in dressing room? Fine, enjoy it.
Talking whilst enjoying your protein drink? Excellent, have fun.
Talking for 30 minutes when blocking a machine? No! And by the way, talking about sport related stuff does not change that at all.

Therefore, dear frequent-talker-whilst-exercising, feel free to take your time to talk about your favourite stories. But please do not block the gym machines when doing so. Not only me but also other people would really appreciate this.

Thank you.
