Seasonal Weather and Climate of Everest Base Camp.
Climate and weather is always mysterious in Mt. Everest but we can predict climate according to season. The temperature at the Everest drop -60 degree which is the biggest issue for the climber because of chill wind and hurricane. These extreme wind relax at the month of May and most of the climbers try to attempt in this short window.
Seasons in Everest Region.
Mount Everest located 28° north of the equator and is theme to a typical northern hemisphere seasonal pattern. It lies at the rim of the force of the Indian Monsoon which brings damp and clouds from June to September. The chilly months are December/January and the best trekking is stuck between these two seasons .during March to May and October to November, when the climate is moderate.
Winter Season.
Winter weather (November to February) is conquered by the southward relocation of the northern hemisphere jet watercourse which brings high winds, chill temperatures and on juncture heavy snow falls. Winter can be a great time for trekking as the crowds trying to avoid the cold clear out. Day temperatures are comfortable and sunny sky generally triumphs although it can get well below freezing at night.
Spring Season.
Spring season is also one of the perfect seasons for trekking, while trekkers in Everest base camp. Generally, spring holds March, April and May which are the perfect for Everest base camp. During this season trekkers can see Mt. Everest full of snow and the clear weather. In this season temperature gets warm and most of the tourists are out of t-shirt.
Monsoon Season.
June to August known as summer weather, which is influenced by the Indian Monsoon and brings frequent rainfall and cloudy days. It is hard to trek in Everest base camp in this season because we can’t predict climate in Everest region. During this season it can be the natural disaster like flood and land slide so it will be better to choose best season for trekking in Everest base camp.
Autumn Season.
Autumn season holds September, October and November. Autumn is the perfect season for trekking in Everest region because in this season monsoon will be gone end temperature become warm. In autumn season we can see the great view of Mt. Everest and Mahalangur range. This season is perfect for Mountain View because you will get crystal clear view of world’s highest mountain.
Everest Rainfall Patterns.
The Everest Base Camp Region is quite dry with a regular of 18 inches of rainfall received at base camp. Most of the precipitation that does fall more than 80%, during the monsoon season of June to September and the rest of the year are comparatively dry. Monsoon moist comes from a south so Everest Base Camp is experiences a rain shadow effect with most rain falling on the south side of the mountains and raining out before the clouds reach base camp. The high elevation and generally cold temperature act as a controlling influence on the amount of moisture and limit its overall availability. This becomes evident when one compares base camp precipitation (18in) to that in Lukla (70in) at the start of the trek. The actual summit of Everest receives very little precipitation as most of it is scoured by high winds. Big winter snowstorms while infrequent are possible as strong mid-latitude storms occasionally brush the region and can deliver over a meter of snow at base camp often taking trekkers by surprise. Its still possible to hike out but be prepared with windproof pants and gaiters if planning a winter trek.
Temperatures at Everest Summit and Base Camp
If you trek in winter season you can feel coldest temperature until end of January which will be
-37C (-35F) while those at Everest Base camp average -17C (1.4F). Temperatures warm rapidly in the spring months of April and May bringing t-shirt weather even though nights are still cold and chilly. It’s not rare to see climbers wearing t-shirts all the way up to camp 3 during this time period.
Wind and Wind Chill on Mount Everest
During Everest summit climber could face the most windy place on earth, hurricane can flow half of the day in middle October till start of April, winds that are almost repeatedly in excess of 74 mph which is corresponding to a Category 1 Hurricane. During the frost Wind Chill attuned temperatures at the summit are as low as -70C (-90F) and exposed skin would be frostbitten almost immediately at this temperature. Lower wind speeds in May and warmer temperatures explain the relatively short climbing window.
Wind chill and low temperatures joint with high elevation make the peak of Everest one of the least hospitable places on the planet during the winter. The used to wind chill temperatures of 70C (-90F) experiential on the summit contrast to the worlds coldest places.
