A Soulful Journey of I’tikaf at Istiqlal Mosque, South East Asia’s Grand Oasis (Ramadan Day 27)
I’tikaf, a spiritual retreat observed during the last ten days of Ramadan, involves secluding oneself in a mosque for the purpose of intense worship, reflection, and devotion to Allah SWT. It’s a time to disconnect from the distractions of the world and focus solely on strengthening one’s relationship with the divine.
At the urging of my dear friend Reski Septiana (Yana), whom I met during my engineering studies, I embarked on the profound journey of I’tikaf.
Arriving at the majestic Istiqlal Mosque well before dawn, we secured a strategic position for iftar, the evening meal to break the day’s fast. As the sun set on the 27th day of Ramadan, the atmosphere within the grand halls of the mosque was nothing short of awe-inspiring. Engulfed in prayer, I felt an overwhelming sense of peace and connection, tears flowing freely as I poured my heart out to Our Lord.
However, amidst the profound spiritual experience, the logistical challenges became apparent. Despite the grandeur of Istiqlal Mosque, the facilities struggled to accommodate the vast number of worshippers. The inadequate number of restrooms led to long, arduous lines, disrupting the flow of devotion for many. Yet, despite the inconvenience, the unwavering dedication of the faithful remained undeterred.
I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to immerse myself in the vibrant Ramadan atmosphere and partake in the profound experience of worship at Istiqlal Mosque. It was a deeply moving encounter, one that I shall cherish forever. Alhamdulillahirabbil alamin — All praise for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.
