Nestled in the forests of Mt. Arashiyama is a highly underrated attraction known as Iwatayama Monkey Park, a Kyoto classic!

Most refer to it as Arashiyama Monkey Park (even the pamphlets!), but the “official” name for this attraction is Iwatayama Monkey Park, a particular range located on Mt. Arashiyama.

Arashiyama is typically known for its iconic bamboo forest, but many people miss out on this hidden gem at Iwatayama when they visit the area with such a focused view (as Bruce Lee says: “Do not focus on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory!“).

With spectacular mountain views, city skylines, and enthusiastic monkeys in their natural habitat, there is plenty of heavenly glory at Arashiyama Monkey Park!

Getting To The Top!

Just along the Katsura River is the front ticket office to get into Arashiyama Monkey Park, costing 600 yen for adults and 300 yen for children.

It’s all uphill from there (literally) as you start to ascend the mountainous ranges of Mt. Arashiyama as you head to the region of Iwatayama.
