This is very well-said. The initial goal of capitalism, as I understand it, is to pursue an ever-increasing rate and volume of human progress at the expense of human presence, equality, and conservation of resources. It’s a game for the very, very impatient; people who want to see the fruits of their contribution in their lifetime.

I like to imagine what it might be like if we accomplished all that we have (internet, moon landings, solar panels, electric cars, medical innovation etc.) but over double the time span it actually took; who would benefit? Who would suffer? Would those groups be about the same size?

I used to be a very black-and-white thinker in this area but that thought experiment makes me wonder…
