For a total of nine years, a girl who went missing as a nine-year-old was confined to one single room, growing up besides her captor. During this time, her family’s hope she was still alive shrinked with every day — until a concerned mother called officials and a long-kept secret blew up.

Vanished on the Way From a Baseball Game

On November 13, 1990 everything appeared normal in the city of Sanjo, Japan. Located in the Niigata Prefecture, this is where Fusako Sano lived. She was a normal fourth grader, nine years old, probably already excited for her birthday that was in two weeks.

In the late afternoon, she just walked back from a baseball game she watched at her school. Close to the school on a farm road, this is where she disappeared.

When Fusako’s family got extremly worried after the little girl didn’t come back home, they decided to report her missing at 7:45PM. Aware of the danger, an extensive search started. Without any success.

Meanwhile 35 Miles From Home…

While Fusako’s family looked for her and their belief of her being alive perished…
