Wow, love this. I passed through all this and as you say “fought the wrong fight” too. Alan Watts says that we place the “I” somewhere in the head, behind the eyes and between the ears. And the “I” that lives in the head judges all other parts of our body from its superior position. When we have a pain in the knee, we never think, “it’s me who aches”, we think, “the knee aches” as if it’s something different from us and that something is misbehaving. But we are a whole and fighting one’s body is like slapping oneself in the face.
